Brechin boss Ray McKinnon has called on his players to display a ruthless streak against Morton this afternoon after two consecutive defeats.
The Glebe gaffer was left incredibly frustrated last weekend as his side lost 3-1 in the Angus derby with Forfar, just seven days after they had gone down 4-2 at home to Ayr United.
McKinnon had a full and frank discussion with his squad on Tuesday night and hopes it will have the desired effect when they play Jim Duffy’s full-time outfit from Greenock today.
The City boss believes that if it has, then his side are more than capable of getting back on track.
He said: “I had a good chat with the lads on Tuesday night. We spoke about how they had played well up to a point against Forfar but we have to tighten up at the back and be mentally stronger.
“We had got ourselves back into the game to make it 2-1 and then we gave away a slack penalty. We also had chances and I felt we were on top in the second half so we need to tighten up at the back like we were earlier in the season and to start putting our chances away at the other end.
“We just need to pull it all together as I still feel we are playing well but not getting the just rewards.
“We need to be more ruthless starting against Morton.
“They are a decent full-time side but we don’t fear anyone when we are playing well. We know it will be a tough game but one we are capable of winning.”
McKinnon will have Greg Cameron available again following suspension but he will still be without the injured Callum Tapping.
The former Hearts midfielder had a scan earlier this week on his injured knee but his manager revealed: “It was inconclusive. There is an extension of his medial ligament but there was a dark patch beside his cruciate.
“He is responding to treatment, though, and is improving so we will have to wait and see.”
