Montrose boss Paul Hegarty has signed keeper Ross Salmon ahead of today’s League Cup tie against Hibs.
The 21-year-old former Forfar stopper has been drafted in as cover for on-loan St Johnstone goalie Jordan Miller although the Gable Endies boss was keen to dispel internet rumours linking him with audacious moves for former Dundee United and Rangers stars Andy Webster and Jon Daly.
Hegarty said: “We have signed goalie Ross Salmon who was with Forfar last season.
“We have brought in Jordan Miller on loan from St Johnstone but they did not want him cup-tied while he was with us so we have snapped up Ross on a one-year deal and he will obviously play at Easter Road.
“However, I can categorically state there is no truth in the internet rumours linking us with Jon Daly and Andy Webster.
“But if they want to come to Montrose, they are more than welcome!”
The Gable Endies travel to Hibs this afternoon buoyed by their performance in defeat last week against Forfar in the Petrofac Training Cup. Hegarty has now called on his players to replicate that display at Easter Road.
He said: “It was noticeable in training this week that the boys were chirpy and had received a wee boost from the way they played at Forfar but it is important that we get performances like that every week if we do, then we will be all right this season.
“We have done our homework on Hibs and had them watched last week against Rangers and despite their defeat, there is no doubting Alan Stubbs has put together a quality side that should be playing in the top flight.
“However, we will go there and play to our strengths while at the same time try to nullify Hibs and come away with credit.”
