Airdrie v Dunfermline: Second place all that matters to Jim Jefferies
ByThe Courier Reporter
Jim Jefferies has urged Dunfermline to make their lives easier for the promotion play-offs by clinching second place as quickly as possible with a victory against Airdrie tomorrow.
The Pars enjoy a 10-point advantage over Stranraer in third spot and a 12-point lead over Ayr United another place below. The East End Park men also have a superior goal difference in comparison to both teams.
With just four matches remaining after this weekend, a win at New Broomfield would be enough to seal the runners-up berth behind Rangers if Stranraer and Ayr lose, and would surely give the Fifers an unassailable lead even if all three take maximum points.
Having confirmed their place in the play-offs with Saturday’s 2-1 win against Brechin City, Jefferies is allowing his thoughts to turn to how best to prepare his squad for the two-legged knock-out contests that will determine whether they return to the Championship next term.
He said: “I think we’re one win away from clinching second and we want to do it as quickly as possible. We’ve got to go out and make sure we apply ourselves like we did on Saturday.”
