Christian Dailly has offered words of encouragement to Scotland’s schoolboys ahead of their Centenary Shield clash with England on Friday.

The former Scotland, Dundee United and Rangers man, who was capped at every level by his country, was in Glasgow yesterday to meet some of the TSB under-18 class of 2014.

The Scots are aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the tournament, having picked up four points in their opening two fixtures.

Stewart Taylor’s young charges shared a 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland in their first match before dismantling Wales 5-1 at Hamilton Accies’ New Douglas Park.

They now travel to Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park one of Dailly’s old grounds knowing victory would see them join their rivals at the top of the league table with England.

James Yates of Perth High School, Scott Hynd of Dunfermline High School and Conor McKenzie of Dunblane High School are in the squad.

Dailly said: “The TSB under-18 Scotland schoolboys have had a terrific start to their Centenary Shield campaign.

“They’ll take a lot of confidence having scored five against Wales in their last outing and hopefully they can show some of that goalscoring form when the go to my old stomping ground Ewood Park.

“A win would give them a real chance of lifting the shield going into their last match against the Republic of Ireland.”

Scotland complete their fixtures with that trip to Dublin on Thursday April 24.
