Grant Murray insists Raith Rovers’ win over Queen of the South was even bigger than their Ramsdens Cup triumph against Rangers.
Tuesday night’s 3-2 success put the Kirkcaldy side nine points clear of Cowdenbeath with just three games to go.
Given a superior goal difference, Raith can now look forward to another stint in the Championship alongside the likes of Rangers and Hearts.
Murray said: “It was a huge win for us, which more or less cements our place in the league and we are also two points clear of Alloa.
“Winning the Ramsdens Cup was great for the club, the players, the fans, everyone, but the league is our priority and it’s massive for us to stay in this league, given what will be at stake next season.
“The quality and competitive side of the Championship will be exceptional. We would have hated to miss out on it, having these big games and the gates that will go along with it.
“In terms of the league, beating Queen of the South was even more important than winning the Ramsdens Cup. Cup runs are always good and to go on and defeat Rangers made it a tremendous occasion.
“It’s something the players will remember for the rest of their days. But over the piece we are judged on how we do in the league.
“So it was a massive win on Tuesday night against a very good Queen of the South team. Now we have another big game coming up against Falkirk.”
