Arbroath’s board will meet tonight to discuss their managerial vacancy.
Paul Sheerin left the Lichties on Friday to become Aberdeen’s under-20 coach.
With pre-season training starting as early as this Saturday, the directors are keen to make a quick appointment if possible.
Chairman John Christison said: “We will be discussing our options at the board meeting.
“Paul’s leaving us was a bit of a bombshell as we were not expecting it.
“The timing is difficult for us as the players get back together this weekend.
“Despite the timing Paul has left here on very good terms.
“He has been offered a full-time job in football and a full-time job at a club on the way up with a management team in Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty that he is very friendly with.
“No one here can criticise him for taking the opportunity. Our assistant manager Stewart Petrie is in charge just now and will continue for the time being.”
