Cowdenbeath boss Jimmy Nicholl has signed two promising youngsters from the club’s youth academy on full-time contracts.
Kyle Mitchell and Josh Thomson last season played for the under-17 side but their form earned them games in both the under-19 and reserve sides as Cowden progressed to the final of the Scottish Under-19 Youth League Cup and semi-final of the Reserve Cup.
Mitchell is a pacy forward while Thomson, who hails from Glenrothes, is a strong central defender.
Nicholl said: “Both lads have ability and have worked hard to earn themselves a contract.
“With continued commitment and dedication there is no reason why they can’t go on and start knocking on the first-team door in the not too distant future.”
Nicholl takes an 18-strong squad to Northern Ireland today for a match against Linfield at Bangor on Saturday.
The Cowden boss is running the rule over a number of trialists but will be concentrating on his signed players for the match as well as the Fifers next pre-season fixture at home to St Mirren on Tuesday as he prepares for the first round Challenge Cup tie against Brechin at Central Park.
Cowden have been placed second in the Scottish FA Fair Play Awards in the Championship last season. Dumbarton were top of the fair play table with Dundee in third place.
