East Fife manager Gary Naysmith turned to his former Sheffield United team-mate, Chris Morgan, for advice on defender Regan Edridge.
Edridge had been a youth at Bramhall Lane before heading for Chesterfield and Naysmith contacted his former Blades buddy to find out more about the 18-year-old centre-back.
Naysmith said: “Chris gave a glowing recommendation about Regan, so he came up and joined us last week for training and did well.
“We opted to put him in against Hamilton in our friendly on Saturday and he was good again.
“However, he does not have a lot of first-team experience, and if he is to join us he has to be able to play at that level.”
The Bayview side travel to meet local amateurs Leven United tonight, and Naysmith intends to send out a strong side.
He said: “We got a bit of a boost from playing well against Hamilton at the weekend and getting a win. “We want to keep that feeling of progression going and have the chance to do that against Leven.
“We have had four high intensity games for us against Fulham, St Johnstone, Hearts and the Hamilton and now the players have to handle the show being on the other foot.”
“We are expected to be the side setting the pace and dictating things as opposed to be sitting in.”
