Cowdenbeath manager Jimmy Nicholl has signed young Dundee United striker Kudus Oyenuga on loan until January and the 21-year-old goes straight into the Fifers’ squad for their League Cup second round tie away to Falkirk tonight.
Nicholl, who was impressed by the former Tottenham youth player in training, moved quickly to complete the deal after learning United manager Jackie McNamara was keen to send him out on loan.
Nicholl said: “He looks to have something about him and hopefully he will do a job for us.
“He was at Spurs as a young lad and also had a spell on loan at St Johnstone and he is quick and strong with decent ability.
“He goes straight into our squad for our League Cup tie at Falkirk.”
Nicholl needed reinforcements up front after losing striker Craig Sutherland to a bad knee injury on Saturday against Alloa and he also has left-back Kenny Adamson and midfielder Sammy Stewart sidelined with injuries for tonight’s game.
Nicholl said: “Falkirk will have a spring in their step after their win at Hibs at the weekend but I am looking for a reaction from my players after the disappointment of losing at home to Alloa.
“Whatever team I put on the park will have to be more determined.”
The Beath boss was shocked to see his side go down 3-0 to the Wasps, losing a 10-game unbeaten league run in the process which had stretched back to January 18.
He said: “I never expected to lose our home record in the league to Alloa 3-0 but if you don’t do your job properly and close people down you will lose.
“The players are going to have to be more determined to stop conceding goals and to stop the opposition playing.”
Cowden, meanwhile, issued a statement yesterday in relation to the confusion surrounding striker Craig Johnston who was substituted 10 minutes after coming on as a sub on Saturday.
Johnston had not been listed on the team sheet issued to the press and public but the Fifers’ chief executive Alex Anderson said that he had been a late addition to the team sheet following his fitness test and that his name was on the official documentation for the match.
Anderson said: “Craig passed a late fitness test and was a late addition to the team sheet. After going on as a substitute he indicated he was having trouble with his hamstring and was then taken off.
“The referee had the official documentation and there was no question of any breach of the rules by Cowdenbeath.”
