Laurie Ellis stays on as Ray McKinnon takes over at Raith Rovers
ByThe Courier Reporter
Raith Rovers legend Laurie Ellis will retain his role on the Stark’s Park coaching staff following the appointment of new manager Ray McKinnon.
Veteran defender Ellis, who remains registered as a player for the Championship outfit, served as first-team coach under previous boss Grant Murray for three years.
The 35-year-old recently admitted his own future was shrouded in uncertainty following Murray’s dismissal last month.
Director of football Maurice Malpas has already departed the club after just five months in the role following the change in the dugout.
However, club sources at Stark’s Park have confirmed that, following discussions with the incoming McKinnon, Ellis will remain on the coaching staff.
The fans’ favourite is currently in his third spell in Kirkcaldy, having made more than 300 appearances for the club. He was honoured with a testimonial against his boyhood heroes Hearts in 2012.
McKinnon was confirmed as Rovers boss on Saturday, departing Brechin City to pen a two-year deal with the Fife outfit.
He will be officially unveiled at a press conference this morning.
