Dunfermline managing director Ross McArthur admits the club are confident manager Allan Johnston will agree to sign a contract extension but only once promotion to the Championship is assured.
The former Queen of the South and Kilmarnock boss put pen to paper on a one-year deal when he joined the Pars last May.
Johnston has now taken Dunfermline to the verge of going up indeed, if they can beat Brechin on Saturday and Peterhead lose against Cowdenbeath, then promotion is assured.
The job Johnston has done, putting together a team that plays attractive, winning football, will not have gone unnoticed elsewhere however, McArthur is certain the manager shares the board’s long-term vision for the club and he will be at East End Park for some time to come.
McArthur said: “There are a lot of plans being made behind the scenes we are certainly not sitting around twiddling our thumbs.
“Allan Johnston is a bit sanguine about his situation and he is happy to get the job done and then talk about it (new contract).
“We have a good working relationship and he is happy at the club.
“He sees the potential we have and the correct way we run the club which ticks a lot of boxes for him.
“He wants to be part of what we want to build at Dunfermline.
“We obviously want to get back to the Premiership eventually it is a long-term plan.
“Allan wouldn’t have come here if he didn’t believe in that.
“Of course, nothing is settled until a contract is signed but we certainly have no fears that he will be going anywhere else.”
