Montrose manager Paul Hegarty was delighted with this side’s performance in winning 4-2 away to a battling East Stirlingshire oufit.
After goals from Chris Templeman (2), Gary Fraser and Adrian Mallagaray sealed another three points for the Gable Endies, the Links Park manager said: “We knew that we were in for a tough match and they had us on the back foot for around 25 minutes but before we knew it we were back in the game and ahead.”
Montrose had the best of the play in the opening minutes, although East Stirling troubled the visitors’ keeper when Neil McCabe provided an inch-perfect pass to Tom Orr but his low shot was brilliantly turned away for a corner by Jordan Millar.
The play was end to end and both sides worked at taking control of the midfield and it was Montrose who took advantage of their strong play to take the lead in the 12th minute.
Templeman was on hand to fire home from a Fraser pass.
Richie Barnard then kept the home side in the match with two outstanding one-handed saves in the space of four minutes as he turned away shots from Fraser and Ross Campbell.
It was the home side that levelled in the 51st minute but their fightback was short-lived as the visitors again went ahead through Fraser and then substitute Mallagaray with his first touch of the ball rounded the keeper and slotted home.
The Shire were not for giving up and fought back to allow substitute Jordan Crainie to head home from close range from a corner,
Montrose tied the points up in the 88th minute when Templeman scored his second goal after some fine play from the by-line saw him deftly shoot past Barnard.
