Arbroath boss Dick Campbell looking for side to stay fully focused

Arbroath boss Dick Campbell has demanded his players concentrate for the full 90 minutes when they travel to face Clyde this afternoon.

The Red Lichties looked to have secured a priceless point in their bid to assure League Two safety last week against Queen’s Park.

Insstead, the Spiders snatched victory with a last-gasp goal to leave Arbroath still sitting second bottom of the table, eight ahead of East Stirling.

Now, Campbell is looking for his players to show greater mental strength as he goes head to head with Clyde boss, former Rangers and Scotland star Barry Ferguson, for the first time.

The Gayfield gaffer said: “To be honest, it wasn’t the performance that annoyed me so much as the mentality of the players.

“We were drawing 1-1 against a team in the play-offs and instead of playing sensible football we were taking quick free-kicks and throw-ins.

“The concentration levels also need to be higher but it is something that I will sort out.

“The good thing is we have a full squad to choose from with Craig Johnston back in although he is not ready to start having been out for so long.

“I named my team on Thursday and there will be three or four changes after last week’s disappointment.

“As things stand we are eight ahead of East Stirling. I know that mathematically there is still a lot to play for in terms of points but I believe one more win would make us safe, hopefully against Clyde.

“I have already started making plans for next season and that will accelerate as soon as we are definitely safe.”
