Referee’s half-time abandonment backed by Brechin boss

Stenhousemuir and Brechin will have to do it all over again after Saturday’s match at Ochilview was abandoned at half-time with the home side one up.
City boss Darren Dods was in no doubt that referee Steven Kirkland had made the correct decision after heavy snow falling on the artificial surface obliterated the lines and made it hazardous for the players.
“I think the referee made the correct decision, although it might have been an easier call to make if the scores had been level,” said Dods.
“With the snow falling before the game it was 50-50 for the match to go ahead but the ref gave it a chance hoping that the snow would go off.
“However, the conditions actually got worse as the game wore on and it was clearly the right decision to call the match off at half-time.”
Saturday’s match also marked the end of striker Dene Shields’ spell with the club with the popular frontman returning to Malta.
