Falkirk v Raith Rovers: Moon sure Rovers can eclipse league rivals

Kevin Moon wants Rovers to cap a good week with a win.

Raith Rovers midfielder Kevin Moon reckons the Kirkcaldy club can cap a good week by maintaining the pressure on their promotion rivals.

Stark’s Park has been a pleasant place to be in the last few days with the news that management team Grant Murray, Laurie Ellis and Paul Smith have all signed contract extensions keeping them at the club until at least 2016 and the fact that Rovers posted a yearly profit of £81,350.

Those developments off the pitch have been warmly welcomed by those of a Raith persuasion, and Moon hopes the team can build on the feel-good factor on the pitch when they travel to Falkirk this afternoon.

“It’s been great news for the club this week and it’s given us a bit of stability,” he commented.

“When I arrived at the club in the summer, I thought Grant, Laurie and Paul were great and they were a breath of fresh air so it’s brilliant to see them get new contracts.

“All the players are now just buzzing for the Falkirk game. We had a wee break from the league with the cup game last week but we just want to go out and win this game.

“We might be playing on an astro pitch but that’s no excuse for us because we went to Queen of the South earlier in the season and won, so we’re well capable of doing it again.

“Falkirk are obviously very strong at home and they’ll look at this as a winnable game, so we know it’s going to be very difficult.

“But we just want to keep our momentum going and keep winning games in the run up to Christmas.

“Games are coming thick and fast just now and we want to be there or thereabouts when we get into January.”

Rovers are just five points adrift of league leaders Hamilton and two behind Dundee going into this weekend’s round of fixtures but would lose their grip on third spot if they were to lose at Falkirk this afternoon.

Grant Murray’s men drew 1-1 at home to Falkirk in the league in September, although they did get the better of the Bairns earlier that month when Greig Spence’s strike was enough to progress in the Ramsdens Cup.

If Raith are to get three points today they will have to do it without defender Paul Watson, who broke a foot in training last month and looks set to be out until the New Year at least, and midfielder Liam Fox, who is struggling with a hamstring problem.

But Moon continued: “We’ve got a couple of injuries but we’ve got adequate cover to come in and do and job for us.

“It’s obviously a massive blow to lose Paul because he’s had a great season so far. When you’ve not got a big squad, it’s hard to recover but Laurie came in last week and did excellently for us, and Ross Callachan has come in and did well.

“There are quite a few boys who can come in and take people’s places, so we’ve just got to get on with it.”
