Peter Grant revealed the success of former club Norwich City has given him an extra spur ahead of Falkirk’s Scottish Cup final against Inverness at Hampden Park.
The 21-year-old started his career in the youth set-up at the Canaries where his brother Raymond still plays and where his namesake father was manager, before he joined Peterborough.
While watching Alex Neil’s side win promotion to the Premiership on Monday with a 2-0 play-off final victory over Middlesbrough at Wembley, Grant took added inspiration for the showpiece occasion in Glasgow.
“It was a fantastic result for Norwich,” he said.
“It’s a very good club down (there) and my brother is still involved in the under-21 set up. I’m glad to see them back because with the stature and foundations they’ve got, they deserve to be in the Premier League.
“Looking at the play-off it obviously put a seed in your mind in that is what you want to happen at the weekend.
“There’s nothing better than achieving something and getting a bit of silverware.
“Whether it’s Champions League finals or Scottish Cup finals you’ve seen how much it means to the players. Winning and achieving something is massive.
“I never thought in my first season at Falkirk I’d be involved in my first Scottish Cup final.
“It really is something special to be involved in and I’m very much looking forward to. Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and come off the pitch with no regrets.
“We’ve got good quality in the side to cause them problems even though they’ve got quality too.
“But we have the belief in ourselves that we can go and get the right result.”
Grant senior won the Scottish Cup with Celtic four times, the last in 1995, and a victory for Falkirk would result in a rare family cup double.
“It’s something I haven’t really thought about. I’m just focused on what I can do to help the team. As a player you always want to win titles and medals and that’s my ambition,” said the defender.
“It’s great to have somebody like that as your father that’s been there and done all that. He’s always there and someone who I can turn to for advice.”
Fellow defender Will Vaulks took a financial gamble in his attempt to get his career re-started at Falkirk but insists it has been worth it as he looks forward to the Hampden final.
The 21-year-old from the Wirral began his career at Tranmere before joining the Bairns initially on a deal he claimed was worth £4.33 a month in order to make the contract official.
“To be here from two years ago is fantastic and I just can’t wait for it,” he said.
“I couldn’t have envisaged a Scottish Cup final. I just wanted to get back training regularly, trying to get into a team to play. To go from that to this has been brilliant.
“We would take any kind of win. It doesn’t matter how we do it but we are all confident and we want to go and win it.”
