Grant Anderson wants to hit double figures this season after scoring his first headed goal for Raith Rovers to earn a point at Greenock on Saturday.
The winger got on the end of substitute Lewis Vaughan’s cross 12 minutes from time to cancel out Dougie Imrie’s penalty kick opener for Morton in the first half.
“I’m pretty good in the air at the halfway line, but I’m not always the best in the box where’s it all hustle and bustle,” Anderson said.
“It was a great dink to the back post from Lewis he put it on a plate for me and I was relieved to see it drop in.
“You always set targets and if you can get to double figures you’re laughing. Sometimes that doesn’t happen because of the way the league is, and the way we play, but double figures is always the benchmark.”
After going to extra time and penalties with 10 men against Hearts in midweek, Raith were slow to get started and David McGurn had to react sharply to turn a Tony Wallace strike past the post in the 13th minute.
Kevin Moon was inches away from giving Rovers the lead in the 23rd minute when the midfielder lobbed home goalkeeper Nicolas Caraux but the ball rebounded off the crossbar.
Raith were denied a penalty in the 35th minute when referee Barry Cook failed to spot Scott Taggart’s blatant handball in the box.
The ref further incensed the Rovers in the 39th minute by pointing to the spot after deeming that a Taggart cross had struck Liam Fox on the arm.
Imrie took the spot kick and sent an emphatic finish beyond McGurn.
Rovers needed McGurn to keep them in the game early in the second half as he first tipped over a Wallace toe-poke before flying across his line to parry Imrie’s 30-yard thunderbolt.
The introduction of 17-year-old Vaughan from the bench gave Rovers a spark up front they had lacked all match and it was from his pinpoint cross that Anderson looped a header beyond Caraux in the 78th minute.
Rovers finished strongly and almost snatched the points in the 89th minute as Vaughan’s neat turn and pass sent Calum Elliot clear in the box, but Caraux managed to push his effort past the post.
Raith boss Grant Murray said: “Cappielow is a difficult place to come as we found last season but we came on strong towards the end and could have won it.
“Tuesday took a lot out of us so to get the effort we got and come back from behind is great from our lads.”
