Cowdenbeath manager Colin Cameron has called on his side to develop their ruthless streak after going down to their third straight league defeat at the weekend.
The Blue Brazil suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Dundee on Saturday and find themselves just a point off bottom spot in the Championship after eight rounds of fixtures.
Although disappointed at the latest setback, Cameron believes his side could easily have taken something from Saturday’s game if they had made more of the chances, a trend he has seen inthe last few losses against Livingston and Hamilton in previous weeks.
“I think it’s plain to see we were probably lacking in a wee bit of confidence because, to be honest with you, I didn’t think there was much between the teams,” he said.
“The first goal was a mistake from Marc McKenzie giving away a silly ball in the middle of the park and Thomas Flynn caught off his line.
“It was a great finish from Craig Beattie but from our point of view it certainly was an avoidable goal.
“We had a few opportunites and, at 1-0 in the second half, Kane Hemmings has got a chance where he’s got Kenny Adamson and Kyle Miller on the outside of him and he’s chosen to shoot when there’s a man right in front of him.
“You’ve just got to recognise what’s around you and we didn’t take the opportunities. We didn’t have lots of opportunities so you’ve got to take them when they come along.
“We’ve got to try and be ruthless.”
Cameron opted to bring forward Greg Stewart back into the starting line-up at the weekend and was delighted with his general contribution although again the problem was there for all to see.
Cameron added: “There was one chance in the first half when Greg cuts inside his man at the edge of the box, it’s there to be hit and he squares it to Kenny Adamson.
“I said to them before the game that if you get opportunities you’ve got to shoot if you don’t shoot, you don’t score. Greg’s got great ability and he just needs to believe a bit more in himself.
“Again he worked the opening well but didn’t take the shot on. It’s a lack of confidence that, because if you have confidence, you’ll take anything on.
“When things aren’t going your way, you can over-complicate things, and that’s what we’re doing at the moment.”
