Clean sheet pleases Raith Rovers boss Grant Murray

Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray had to be content with a point at Morton on Saturday, although his side’s first clean sheet in the league since October was a pleasing factor.

Rovers had shipped eight goals in the space of three games heading into the weekend’s clash at Cappielow but were defensively solid as they steadied their promotion bid following back-to-back defeats.

The 0-0 draw kept the Kirkcaldy club in the fourth and final play-off spot and moved to them to within nine points of league leaders Dundee, and Murray hopes his team can build on their defensive display.

He said: “Am I happy with a point?

“Yes and no because looking upon it, the chances we had, the chances we created and the goal attempts were probably more than we’ve had in the Cowdenbeath, Dundee and Livingston games put together.

“I know they are only stats but you are disappointed you didn’t take one of them and get yourself ahead in the game albeit they had a couple of chances.

“It’s a clean sheet for us, but on the flip side you are disappointed you don’t take a chance when you make that many.

“At the end of the day we want to win games of football. Clean sheets will give you a huge chance of winning games of football but the bottom line is winning them.

“Whether it be 2-1, 3-2, 4-3. You want to eradicate goals but the bottom line is that we want to win games.”

Rovers head to play Queen of the South on Saturday and will have defender Jason Thomson back available from suspension.
