Brechin boss Ray McKinnon looking for more goals from his side

Brechin boss Ray McKinnon has challenged his players to fill the void left by injured top scorer Alan Trouten as the Angus side continue their quest to secure a League One promotion play-off spot.

“Trouts” was recently ruled out until the end of the season after breaking his ribs against Peterhead last month.

The 29-year-old had netted a total of 14 goals for City before his injury and he is obviously a big loss but McKinnon is hoping others such as Andy Jackson can step into his shoes, starting today at second-top Morton as Brechin look to get back to winning ways.

City took the lead at Ayr last week through a Jackson goal but then conceded two before ultimately securing a draw thanks to Paul McLean after going down to 10 men.

The Glebe gaffer said: “Considering the circumstances it was ultimately a good point at Ayr last week.

“We had four players missing, Craig Molloy had taken a head knock and was dizzy when he gave away a penalty and then we had Callum Tapping sent off.

“That was really disappointing as he was booked after going in one on one with the goalie with the official deciding he had dived but Tappy wasn’t even looking for a penalty.

“Then just seconds later, he booked him again after he went up for a header.

“So as I said it was a great point being without four players and then going down to 10 men.

“It was good to see Jacko getting another goal. That’s three in five games and he has stepped up to the plate in the absence of Alan Trouten.

“We are certainly creating enough chances so hopefully a few more will start putting the ball into the back of the net beginning against Morton.

“We have done really well against them so far this season but they are going for the league title and we know how difficult the game will be.

“However, there will be a lot of pressure on them and we will be going for the win.

“Trouts is still out but we will have Craig Storie back from Scotland Under-19 duty while Colin Hamilton and Bobby Barr have also returned.

McKinnon added: “It really is unbelievable that every side in this league still has something to play for.

“I have said it many times but this is a hugely competitive division.

“I am sure there will be many twists and turns before the season ends.”
