Montrose looking to repeat Elgin win

Montrose looking to repeat Elgin win

Montrose manager Paul Hegarty has challenged his players to emulate the season’s high point when they travel to title-chasing Elgin City today.

The Links Park boss believes the 3-1 win over Jim Weir’s men last month showed how good his team can be.

“Not only was it our best performance of the season,” Hegarty said. “It was the best performance since myself and John Holt came to the club. It was that good.

“We did exceptionally well that day.

“The boys deserved all the praise and plaudits that came their way.

“They’ve shown they can do it so there’s no reason why they can’t do it again.”

East Fife have been the only side in recent memory to beat Elgin on their own pitch, and Hegarty added: “They’re a very strong side in this division.

“Jim will be hoping to win the title.

“There’s still work to be done for us. If the players can show a bit more consistency it will give them the end of the season I think they deserve, because they’re a really good bunch.”

Paul Watson and Ross McCord are still out but McCord is now training more regularly and could soon be available again.
