Cowdenbeath have been struck a huge blow for Saturday’s relegation showdown with Alloa Athletic after it emerged that defender Nat Wedderburn sustained a broken shoulder at the weekend.
The former England under-19 was injured falling heavily just after the hour-mark in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to champions Hearts and was taken to hospital after the match.
X-rays proved the one-time Stoke City youngster had suffered a fracture and the 23-year-old is scheduled to have further tests in the coming days to discover if there is any further damage.
Boss Jimmy Nicholl confirmed the deeply disappointing news yesterday and confessed the Englishman would be a big miss for Saturday’s trip to Alloa as the club’s Championship status hangs in the balance.
Meanwhile, Arbroath’s interim manager Todd Lumsden reckons that on-loan Dundee midfielder Dylan Carreiro is bouncing back into form at the right time.
The Canadian was a stand-out when the Red Lichties raced into the lead in League Two in the first half of the season, however he has struggled along with the rest of the Gayfield men during 2015.
Lumsden saw signs in the 1-1 draw with Albion Rovers that the midfielder was back to his best.
He said: “Dylan was more like the way he played in the opening half of the season on Saturday.
“Hopefully he can go on and have a very positive impact in the play-offs.”
Dundee boss Barry Smith has been confirmed as the new manager of Aldershot Town.
Smith has signed a one-year rolling contract.
