Berwick almost scored in seven minutes when Darren Lavery shot just over. On the half hour, Stuart McKenzie made a double save to deny Ross Gray and Scott Dalziel. Berwick were unlucky again three minutes later when Johnny Fairbairn hit the post with a header. Montrose should have scored in 41 minutes when Bryan Deasley put the ball wide. In 69 minutes, Paul Watson walked for his second booking, but Montrose almost took the lead when a Stephen McNally header was cleared off the line. Montrose held on for a point and right at the death, McNally cleared off the line from Fairbairn. Montrose boss Stuart Garden said “That is the second game in which we have taken a point with 10 men. We will have to learn to keep 11 on the park. “In the second half we did better and took the game to them, but we defended really well and had chances to snatch it. “Paul Watson was sent off just as we were about to sub him and it was a bit harsh.”
