The fate of Dunfermline Athletic effectively lies in the hands of a judge today as the threat of liquidation looms large over the East End Park club once again.
Former owner Gavin Masterton’s shock legal move in relation to the Pars’ Pitreavie training ground has pushed the crisis-hit Fife outfit back to the brink of extinction, with the outcome of the hearing at the Court of Session in Edinburgh likely to prove crucial in determining DAFC’s survival.
Masterton has applied for an interdict to stop the club’s administrators BDO from renouncing the lease with Fife Council for Pitreavie and, if granted by Lord Woolman on Friday morning, it will almost certainly sound the death knell for the 128 year-old club.
Fans group Pars United have been waiting in the wings to take control of the club from BDO, but a condition of their takeover was for the Pitreavie lease to be terminated as they view the facility as a liability.
And now that Masterton has gone to the courts to try to block this, because security for the lease is held by a pension fund, the trustees for which were the former owner and ex-chairman John Yorkston, events at the Court of Session this morning could well determine Dunfermline Athletic’s future.
