East Fife player-boss Gary Naysmith said he may have to attempt to go unconventional in a bid to solve his striking problems.
Naysmith’s Fifers are light on the ground up front with main man Kevin Smith out injured.
Fellow forward Nathan Austin was injured at the weekend as East Fife drew 1-1 with Clyde, leaving the Methil men with only Ola Adeyemo as a recognised striker.
The Fifers welcome East Stirlingshire to Bayview on Tuesday, with Naysmith admitting that he may have to look at other options.
He said: “Nathan Austin felt his hamstring at half time but still gave us another 20 minutes.
“Alan Cook came on and played as an unorthodox forward and I think I also had Jonathan Page up there too.
“So we’re light up front. We’re going to have to rack our brains and pull a striker out of somewhere because now we only have Ola as a fit striker for Tuesday.
“We’ll be fine but we’re just a wee bit light so it may be that you see something a bit different from us maybe Allan Walker up front or something to try to boost our options.”
East Fife and Clyde have been two of the form sides in the league since the turn of the year but there’s little doubt that the home side had the better of this 90 minutes.
From the start Naysmith’s men looked menacing with Austin going one-on-one with Alan Martin after just a few minutes.
But the Clyde keeper was off his line quickly and snuffed out the danger.
Austin was proving to be a real problem for Clyde and almost capitalised on some sloppy defending when he caught Ross Fisher dithering in possession on the edge of his box.
The Fifer grabbed hold of possession but curled his effort wide.
But East Fife were to gift Clyde the opener after 65 minutes.
Allan Fleming came for a Scott Durie cross but was woefully short of claiming the ball.
Brian McQueen took advantage by heading into the empty net.
But East Fife got a deserved equaliser at the death.
Naysmith squared a free-kick to the impressive Fraser Mullen and the midfielder rifled home from the edge of the box to score his second cracking goal in as many weeks.
Naysmith said: “Clyde will be thinking Christmas has come early for them because we absolutely dominated the game.
“But that’s credit to Clyde because they defended well.”
