A win for Raith Rovers over visitors Queen of the South will all but guarantee Championship football next season for the Ramsden Cup holders.
However, manager Grant Murray wants more than that.
Three points would lift the Kirkcaldy side above Alloa in the table and move them nine points clear with a better goal difference than Fife rivals Cowdenbeath, who look set for an end of season fight for survival.
Raith lost 3-1 to Dumbarton on Saturday in their first game after beating Rangers to lift silverware and Murray is in no mood to let their season peter out after that success.
Murray said: “I want us to finish the season higher than in eighth place. Winning this game takes us up to seventh and gives a good platform to chase Livingston in sixth.
“Our plan to get six points by winning two home games in a row did not get off to a good start on Saturday, so we start again against Queen of the South.”
Rovers are boosted by the return of three key players Liam Fox, Kevin Moon and Joe Cardle who were all suspended against the Sons, with Murray saying: “We were without a significant amount of experience at the weekend.
“It was unfortunate to have the three of them missing however, it happened that way because of putting this game off for the Ramsdens Final, so we cannot complain too much.”
“It is good to have them available again for what will be a really tricky game against a Queen of the South side who are also looking to bounce back after a defeat and are chasing a play-off place.”
Although Fox, Moon and Cardle are available, Dougie Hill is banned after being dismissed at the weekend, and there is doubt over Greig Spence who has picked up a knock.”
Queens are looking to win at Stark’s Park and move three points clear of Dumbarton ahead of the two play-off chasing sides meeting at the Bet Butler Stadium on Saturday.
The Doonhamers went down 2-1 at home to Falkirk on Saturday however manager Jim McIntyre was not downbeat as he said: “We created a lot of chances but carried no luck at all in front of goal.
“I cannot criticise the players as they have been terrific recently and hopefully they will be again. We just need to have better fortune when it comes to getting the ball over the line.
“We will look to pick ourselves up at Raith, however they will be saying the same after losing to Dumbarton.”
McIntyre praised his side’s opponents for winning the Ramsden Cup as he said: “It was a fantastic achievement by them and a fantastic achievement for the championship.”
He continued: “The first three months of this season they were terrific but have had a few highs and lows since then. Hopefully they will not be getting another high against us.
“It would be great to win this game and head to Dumbarton looking to all but secure our play-off place.”
Mark Kerr and Michael Paton are carrying knocks and will face fitness tests before kick-off, with everyone else available to the Palmerston boss.
