Cowdenbeath 1 Airdrie 3: Eddie Wolecki Black illness over-shadows match
ByThe Courier Reporter
This match was over-shadowed by Airdrie boss Eddie Wolecki Black being taken to hospital at half-time.
Airdrie have thanked those who sent their support for the Dundee-born coach, after it was revealed he had suffered a stroke.
Without their boss Airdrie battled on to win the game and that was due to some terrible defending by Cowdenbeath.
Airdrie had taken the lead in just five minutes with a 35-yard rocket shot from Jordan Thompson.
Cowden had chances to level early in the second-half when substitutes Ross Caldwell (twice) and Declan Byrne missed the target from only a few yards out.
Then two terrible defensive errors saw the Diamonds go 3-1 up with a Jim Lister double, and that was that.
Lewis Milne had pulled one back for the Blue Brazil.
Cowdenbeath manager Colin Nish was deflated by what he had seen, and said: “The second and third goals were really awful from our point of view and should have been stopped.
“However, it has been the story of our season, playing some reasonable football and giving away bad goals.”
He added: “We are going out with a lack of belief just now, and that attitude has to change quickly.”
