Montrose manager Stuart Garden was disappointed as his side failed to hold a lead against 10-man Elgin at Borough Briggs.
He said: “I felt we had a real chance to win it but the way we conceded the goals was very poor. That is the disappointing side of it, but the positives were that we deserved to win the game.
“Bryan Deasley has done great the two games that he has played and he has made a real difference to us up front and had two great finishes today,” he said.
Deasley gave Montrose the lead just inside 20 minutes as he curled a shot into the top corner.
Elgin equalised through skipper David Niven on the 59th minute.
The home side took the lead just after the hour mark as Ross McKinnon scored with a right-footed effort from outside the box.
Elgin were hit with a blow a minute later as captain David Niven saw a straight red for a lunge on Deasley.
Montrose responded almost straight away as Lloyd Young scored in the 63rd minute.
An incredible 10 minutes in the game saw Montrose take the lead on the 67th minute with Deasley netting his second.
Ex-Montrose defender Sean Crighton headed home on the 79th minute to secure Elgin a point.
Garden added: “I think the red card was definitely a red card.”
