Montrose boss Paul Hegarty praised his side after they battled their way to a point against promotion-chasing Queen’s Park.
The draw takes Montrose nine points clear of bottom-markers East Stirling in their bid to avoid the dreaded bottom spot in League Two which they occupied last season.
Hegarty said: “That was a great point. In the first half they were much better than us and we couldn’t get to grips with the game.
“We were fortunate to be only 1-0 down at half-time with the game retrievable.
“We scored a magnificent goal from Gary Fraser, a free-kick into the top corner, then dominated the next 15 minutes.
“There was a stoppage for an injury to one of their players and we never got back up to speed.
“It was backs to the wall and my players showed their mettle to keep their unbeaten run going.
“I am delighted with the response in the second half, but my players know they can play a lot better and that they fell below the standards they have set.”
Queen’s Park took the lead on 16 minutes when Paul Woods cut in from the left and shot home.
Queen’s dominated and striker Chris Duggan missed with two shots and a header in the space of five minutes.
Two minutes from half-time a Sean Burns curler was tipped over by Jordan Millar.
Montrose drew level two minutes after the restart when Gary Fraser curled a glorious free-kick in off the post.
The visitors could see two points slipping away and, on 66 minutes, David Galt hit the underside of the Montrose crossbar.
Montrose held on grimly and had a let-off on 80 minutes when John Carter blazed over.
Two minutes into added time, Montrose rode their luck again when a shot from Duggan smacked off the underside of the bar and stayed out.
