Raith’s Kyle Benedictus delighted baby son sleeps the night away

Raith’s Kyle Benedictus admits his happiness will be assured if Rovers do well in the Championship and his baby son continues to let him have a good night’s sleep.

The former Dundee centre-half admits he thought he would struggle with being a new dad when Max arrived on the scene six months ago.

However, so far, he has found it a breeze although he insists he won’t be telling his partner Raegan that any time soon.

Benedictus said: “I’ve just had a wee one, Max, he’s six months old.

“He’s brand new. I’ve not had many sleepless nights. He’s as happy as Larry and he only gets up once a night, so it’s not too bad.

“If he doesn’t give me sleepless nights and we do well in the league, then everything will be fine.

“I’m fine with the nappies as well. A lot of people warned me it was going to be a lot tougher and I thought it was going to be the worst.

“But he’s great, so it’s happy days for me.

“If he keeps going the way he’s going, then I’ll be fine. I thought it was going to be a lot more difficult than it has been.

“But don’t tell my partner, Raegan she might want another one!”

Benedictus has recovered from injury in time to play his part as Raith look to return to winning ways in the league tonight down at Queen of the South.

And he admits games against sides like the Doonhamers and Morton will probably define their season.

He added: “You could say that. Every game’s difficult in this league, no matter what.

“I’m confident in our home games. We’ve been steady throughout the season.

“It’s just about these away games and if we can go and pick up the points against certain teams then hopefully that will make a difference.

“I do think Queens and Morton will be up there.

“So, they are the teams you want to be beating. Obviously, Rangers and Hibs are bonus games and you get something if you can.

“But the teams round about you in the league, they’re the ones you need to be taking points off.”

Benedictus started the season in what for him was prolific scoring form but the third and last of his goals so far came against Queens away back on September 12.

However, the 24-year-old insists he has barely had a sniff in front of goal recently.

He said: “I’ve been saying to the boys since that goal I don’t think I’ve had a chance.

“I think big Jon Daly has been pushing boys out of the way trying to get a goal!

“It doesn’t matter who scores, as long as we’re picking up three points.

“Mark Stewart has scored a couple of goals recently, so that’s given him confidence.

“We have been scoring goals, but maybe I’m overdue one and I can put one in the back of the net.”

Raith boss Ray McKinnon is hoping to have Grant Anderson and Lewis Toshney back from injury for tonight’s game although Mitch Megginson is doubtful while Jason Thomson, Craig Barr and Lewis Vaughan all continue to be sidelined.
