East Fife chairman Lee Murray has appealed to the club’s support to back, not boo, the team as they look to secure their League One survival.
The Methil men sit just four points ahead of Airdrie, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.
Saturday’s game against the Diamonds at New Bayview, which ended 0-0, was the last straw as far as Murray was concerned, with a section of the home support abusing players.
He has now issued a statement, which reads: “I am asking all fans to help the club over the closing weeks of the season.
“During Saturday’s match, it was really disappointing to hear fans single out players for criticism.
“Everybody at the club, from directors, coaching, players or staff, give everything they have to make the club as successful as possible.
“We are all in this together with you the supporters. I stated at the start of the season that 8th would be a good achievement for us, coming from where the club was last season.
He added: “Anything more than that will be a major achievement.
“I know it can be very frustrating, it’s the same for me, but as I have said to my directors since the start of the season, encouragement not criticism is all that I will accept in the directors’ box.
“I urge all our fans to support the players and the manager no matter how we are playing! We want and need your support but singling out individuals is harming us, not helping us.
“We have ambitions and clear plans for the club over the next few years so please get behind the team and help us with the first stage so we can build a solid foundation for OUR CLUB.”
