Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon has revealed that club captain Jason Thomson will be out for up to two months after fracturing a bone in his back.
The 28-year-old full-back had to come off just before half-time in his side’s game at Livingston on October 31.
Thomson landed awkwardly and damaged his back but it was initially hoped he would make a quick recovery.
However, he was still in a lot of pain and was sent to see an osteopath last week.
Now, Thomson is set to be sidelined for some time which is the last thing McKinnon needs with a whole host of other first-team regulars currently in the treatment room and a match at home with league leaders Rangers at the weekend looming large on the horizon
The manager said: “I just cannot believe the amount of injuries we have picked up in a short space of time.
“It has now been confirmed that Jason Thomson has fractured a bone in his back.
“It looks like he will be out for six to eight weeks which is a huge blow for Jason and the team.
“He obviously missed our Scottish Cup victory at Elgin on Saturday along with Mitch Megginson who strained his medial ligament against Dumbarton and Lewis Toshney who is still not back training.
“Kyle Benedictus hurt his knee against Elgin, Ryan McCord had to come off with a thigh strain and Grant Anderson has a hamstring problem.
“Mark Stewart has also been playing through the pain barrier and even after recalling David Bates from his loan spell at Brechin, I still had to put four 16-year-olds on the bench on Saturday.
“It is an unbelievable situation to be in.
“The good thing is that at least we are in the next round of the cup.
“It was a bit tense at the end but once again we should have been well ahead in the game.”
