Promising signs for Brechin boss Darren Dods

Brechin boss Darren Dods knows only too well that playing against Peterhead at Balmoor is never an easy task.

Add in the fact that his City side are still looking for their first league point of the season while Jim McInally’s side have already taken the scalp of full-timers Dunfermline at home and the trip north looks like being in the “Mission Impossible” category.

However, the Glebe gaffer saw enough from his players in the first half-hour of their game with Forfar last week to believe they can cause an upset.

He said: “The boys started really well against Forfar but had nothing to show for it.

“We are just not getting the breaks just now and the first thing our keeper had to do was pick the ball out of the back of the net.

“We then conceded a poor second however before that, there were definitely promising signs and we also have Paul McLean and Dene Shields back from injury which is a big boost.

“I was also really impressed with David Bates who made his debut for us last week after joining on loan from Raith Rovers.

“He slotted in really well after only one training session with the rest of the lads.

“It doesn’t get any easier for us as Peterhead is always a tough place to go to.

“It was difficult against them last season when I was with Forfar and even going back to my days at Inverness, we never had an easy time against them in pre-season games.

“They have already beaten Dunfermline at home this season so we know it will be tough.

“However, if we can play the way we did at the start of the game against table-topping Forfar for the full 90 minutes, then hopefully we can get a good result up there.”

Brechin will be without the injured Ross Perry while Andy Jackson and Darren McCormack face late fitness tests.
