Defiant Bryan Deasley admitted Montrose were fortunate to rescue a point but believes the Links Park team’s fighting spirit augurs well for the remainder of the season.
The former Dundee and Forfar striker said: “We got lucky as Clyde could have had the game out of sight and the draw was harsh on them.
“Our keeper Stuart McKenzie made a couple of great saves and we scrambled a late equaliser. This team fights for the 90 minutes so even if we are not at our best we still have a chance.
“It’s a good sign that we have not been at our best recently but we are getting points. Peterhead are well ahead at the top but there are a number of teams that can be in the play-offs.”
Clyde opened the game well and forced a great save from McKenzie who saved at the feet of Stuart McColm who had been put clean through by John Sweeney’s pass.
However, the Bully Wee opened the scoring on 34 minutes with a great move and a brilliant finish. Brian McQueen’s pass caught out the Gable Endies’ defence and Stefan McCluskey kept his cool to lob McKenzie.
McKenzie kept his side in contention with a fine diving save from McCluskey’s shot that took a wicked deflection on 38 minutes.
At the other end Jamie Barclay dived to save from Jonathon Crawford’s bullet header from a Callum Ferguson corner on 44 minutes.
Montrose looked like heading home empty handed but with eight minutes left Deasley headed down for Scott Johnston who shot into the bottom left corner from 15 yards.
Montrose boss Stuart Garden said: “We were fortunate as Clyde were much better than us in the first half. We changed things at 1-0 as we had to get tighter but also the wind was on our side after the break.”
