Cowdenbeath have secured the services of highly-rated Hibs midfielder David Gold on loan until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Queen’s Park, is a player Cowden boss Jimmy Nicholl knows well given his spell as a coach at Easter Road and will be added to the squad for the visit of Dumbarton tomorrow.
Formerly captain of Hibs’ under-20 side, Gold signed a one-year contract with the club in the summer and has had first-team experience in pre-season friendlies.
With Gold on board, Nicholl told Courier Sport he was also keen to add an unnamed defender who can play either full-back or centre-back but faced competition from several other clubs for his signature.
“I can probably get two or three players in, but that’s really with the help of SPL clubs,” he said.
“I know what we need and I reckon we could do with another two or three in just to try and cover positions where we’re maybe a bit short.”
Nicholl has also been delighted with the input of striker Kane Hemmings, whose goal against Alloa proved decisive.
The 23-year-old former Rangers forward now has 16 goals in all competitions this season and has scored six in his last five league games.
Nicholl said: “Kane’s goalscoring ability is brilliant and he’s thriving at this level. He’s doing a great job for us just now.
“Sometimes you get players who score and they can be a luxury but he’s not like that he’s working hard.”
