James Morrison will join the Tartan Army to watch from the stand when Scotland face Poland in their crunch clash.
The midfielder is suspended for the penultimate Euro 2016 Group D qualifier after picking up a booking during Monday night’s 3-2 loss to world champions Germany.
He went in late on Bastian Schweinsteiger just before the hour at Hampden then followed that up by risking being sent off with two dodgy challenges on Toni Kroos.
The red card didn’t come out but the yellow from Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers was still enough to rule the West Bromwich Albion player out of the October 8 visit from the Poles.
So now he will join the fans to roar on his teammates as they bid to beat the odds and qualify for the finals in France.
Morrison admitted: “I thought I was going to be sent off.
“The referee showed a bit of common sense because neither of them (the tackles on Kroos) were bad challenges.
“Both were fouls but that is because it is hard to stop good players going past you.
“I wasn’t reckless, but I won’t lie because for a second I thought I might get a red card.
“I am banned for the Poland game now, which is really disappointing.
“I had known for a while I was a booking away but I couldn’t think about it.
“I needed to make tackles out there and we have enough in the squad for other lads to come in and do a job.
“I can be involved in the Gibraltar game so I will still be coming up to Hampden.
“I also missed the Ireland game so I know what it’s like to watch from the stand.
“It is not nice but I will be there supporting the lads and kicking every ball from where I am sitting.
“Mind you, it might be that me sitting it out is a lucky omen!”
Scotland sit four points behind the Irish in third spot now so they can’t afford any slip-up against second-placed side Poland.
Morrison said: “It is a must-win – we know what we have to do.
“We need to win both matches against them and then Gibraltar and see where it takes us.
“Hopefully, we will get a bit of luck and if we play like we did against Germany then there is no reason we can’t win against Poland.
“Scoring two goals against Germany is a reminder to Poland that they are going to have to be right on their game when they come here.
“Also, I think we can play better with the ball than we did against the Germans.
“Poland know about us – we have played them twice recently – so they will know it’s going to be a right good game here at Hampden.
“They will appreciate it’s going to be a tough test for them.”
“We will have to have a real go against Poland and that’s what we’ll do.
“That’s all you can ask for. We will give it everything and see what happens.”
