Montrose boss Stuart Garden felt his side should have extended their unbeaten run to three games in Saturday’s League Two clash at Galabank.
The Gable Endies looked to be moving into play-off contention after picking up four points from their previous two matches.
But their momentum was halted when Annan’s Josh Todd scored the only goal of a closely-fought game two minutes after the break.
In a game of few chances, Bryan Deasley wasted the Links Park side’s best chance when he blazed over the goal in stoppage time.
“It was a very frustrating day,” Garden said. “There wasn’t much in the game but we conceded a poor goal. It came from a goalie’s kick-out and that should never happen.
“We had plenty time to get back into the game but we never tested their goalie enough. We had a few half-chances at the end but we never tested the goalie at all, which is very disappointing.
“We controlled most of the first half without creating much. Overall, I thought we deserved a point because there was nothing in the game.”
Montrose now sit six points outside the top four, but, with 36 points still to play for, Garden is adamant his side can still force themselves into the play-offs.
He said: “You win two of three games in a row in this league and you’re right back up there, so we still think we’ve got a chance of getting in the play-offs.
“It would have been good to come down here and continue our wee run even a point would have been a decent result but there’s still time to get back into it,” he added.
