Dunfermline 1 Ayr 0: Pars earn huge Scottish Cup boost
ByIan Roache
Dunfermline boss Jim Jefferies has predicted that the club could wipe out their expected financial loss when they meet Rangers in the last 16 of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
The Pars beat Ayr United in their fourth round replay last night at East End Park and are now Ibrox-bound in February.
Just what an important result this 1-0 win, earned by a Ryan Thomson goal, could turn out to be was revealed by Jefferies. He said: “We now have a great day to look forward to financially for the club.
“We had planned to make a loss this year because we had spent money to keep the club afloat.”
“The first year (after administration) was always going to be a tough year but I think this trip to Ibrox will go a long way to cutting that loss.
“That’s great and we can go there and enjoy the game. We gave a good account of ourselves at Ibrox recently so hopefully we can do the same again.
“We spoke to the players about how big a game it was. It was vastly important to us.
“Now, if we can get a good crowd and TV then the club will be delighted.”
