SPFL chiefs under fire for post-split fixture farce
ByCraig Smith
SPFL chiefs have come under fire after the failure to reach agreement on the post-split fixtures on time.
Dundee United, St Johnstone and Dundee all booked top six spots in the Premiership and were anxiously awaiting the release of the run-in on Tuesday, but it soon emerged that league bosses would be unable to publish the list on time.
The SPFL said they hope to finalise the post-split list as soon as possible but, with talks between them, broadcasters and police failing to find a breakthrough ahead of schedule, no guarantee has yet been given on that score.
Talks have been further complicated by the fact that Falkirk and Hibs are both challenging for a promotion place to the top flight from the Championship while also competing in the Scottish Cup.
They play their semi-final this weekend, and should either reach the latter stages of the play-offs it is feared the SPFL season may stretch into June.
The final round of ‘normal’ fixtures are due to be played this weekend, although Dundee United have still to play Inverness twice more this season both of which will now have to be after the split.
