Liam Craig insists he is up for the challenge of being Hibernian captain after being handed the skipper’s armband by new boss Terry Butcher.
The midfielder, who joined Hibs from St Johnstone in the summer, led the team out for the first time in Saturday’s goalless draw against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership and will retain the role under the new management.
And Craig is hoping to go some way to emulating former England and Rangers skipper Butcher by leading Hibs to a successful season.
He said: “It’s a great honour to captain Hibs and I will do it to the best of my ability.
“He (Butcher) has captained his country and captained Rangers so the fact that he has seen those qualities in me in a short space of time gives me great confidence to go and lead the team out on a Saturday.”
* Danny Wilson scored a late equaliser against 10-man Ross County to grab a point for Hearts in a 2-2 draw at Tynecastle.
In a compelling 90 minutes of football, the visitors went ahead through Graham Carey following a slack pass back by Callum Tapping.
Callum Paterson levelled before the break but the impressive Melvin De Leeuw restored County’s lead with a fine finish.
The Staggies were reduced to 10 men when captain Richie Brittain was shown a second yellow and Wilson levelled with two minutes left.
* Motherwell strikers John Sutton and Henri Anier were on target again to inflict a 2-0 defeat on Kilmarnock and leave their hosts stuck in the Scottish Premiership relegation play-off place.
Motherwell had missed a handful of good chances before the unmarked Sutton scored a diving header from an Iain Vigurs cross in a 54th-minute counter-attack.
Kris Boyd missed a great chance to equalise and Anier came off the bench to round off the victory.
