Cowdenbeath will head to table-topping Hamilton confident of taking something from the game, player boss Colin Cameron has insisted.
New Douglas Park holds fond memories for the Fife club after their 3-1 win there on the last day of the season proved to be enough to preserve their league status at Dunfermline’s expense.
Indeed, Cowden took seven points from their four fixtures with Accies last term.
However, the Hamilton of season 2013-14 seem to be a different proposition entirely and have eased into the role of early pacesetters by racing five points clear at the top of the Championship.
Accies’ start to the season makes today’s trip a daunting prospect for the Fifers, but Cameron believes his side will go there in buoyant mood after back-to-back wins have hauled the Blue Brazil up the table.
“It’s a tight league and it’s going to be a tight league all season,” he said.
“Hamilton are going really well at the moment, and although that was their first points dropped last weekend, Dundee’s keeper got man of the match, so that should tell you something.”
He added: “The last time we went there, we won at the end of last season I know Hamilton might not have had much to play for, but it should still give us confidence knowing that we can go there and get a good result.
“The last two performances and more importantly results will give us a bit of confidence, but I don’t think we played much better than we did in the first three games to be honest.
“It’s just that we’ve had that wee bit of luck when it mattered. I felt the results were going to come and winning breeds confidence it’s as simple as that.
“We’ll go to Hamilton in confident mood but under no illusions. We’re going to have to play to all our capabilities to get a good result.”
Cowden notched their second straight league win last weekend thanks to a late Greg Stewart winner over Falkirk, and it has given Cameron plenty of food for thought in terms of his starting line-up.
He added: “What was pleasing was that the lads kept going right until the final whistle and they competed with a full-time club, not just on the playing side, but in terms of their fitness as well.
“We looked stronger than Falkirk at the end of the game, and that’s really pleasing from my point of view.”
Midfielder Jamie Stevenson remains a slight doubt, but looks set to return for the first time since being forced off in the 3-2 win over Dumbarton with a hamstring problem at the end of last month.
