Michael Moffat insists Dunfermline can stop their League One rivals from parking the bus by continuing their habit of scoring early.
The former Ayr United striker broke the deadlock at New Broomfield on Saturday after just seven minutes as title-chasing Pars eased past the Diamonds.
Substitute Shaun Byrne added a second goal after the break to seal victory for Allan Johnston’s side who are now unbeaten in eight matches.
The Pars are a point behind leaders Ayr but 30 year-old Moffat feels they can keep the pressure on his old club with a focus on attacking football.
He said: “We want to get out of this league and have started the season well but, unfortunately for us, Ayr have done the same thing.
“It’s a good kind of pressure and I think all the boys are relishing it.
“We’re confident as a team that we will score goals so long as we continue to create chances and we know the boys at the back have been great all season.
“It was nice to get the early goal and I felt we controlled the rest of the match they didn’t have too many chances.
“I think we have been at our best when we’ve scored early as teams then need to come out and have a go at you.
“We would rather be top but there is a long way to go. Ayr are on a great run but so are we and we have to make sure that we take advantage if they slip up.
“If we keep playing the way we are then I’m sure we will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
“It was good to get another win and hopefully we will be able to kick on and keep our run going.”
Moffat has scored nine goals so far this season and admitted the level of quality within the Dunfermline squad means no one in the side is guaranteed a start.
“It’s good to have competition for places and you know that you have got to play well or you won’t be in the team,” he added.
Moffat headed home at the back post to give the Pars a first-half lead after Rhys McCabe flicked on Ryan Wallace’s cross.
Midfielder Byrne made it 2-0 in the 54th minute when he slotted home after good work by Wallace.
Pars boss Allan Johnston said: “I felt we controlled the game from start to finish and deserved the win.
“We are always liable to create chances and score goals with the players we’ve got.”
Diamonds manager Gary Bollan said: “We’re obviously disappointed with the performance and I don’t think we made Dunfermline work hard enough for their two goals.”
