Stevie Campbell latest – Dunfermline coach still in the frame

Dunfermline coach John Potter remains a leading contender to replace Stevie Campbell, should Dundee United’s head of youth depart the club.

The future of Campbell has still yet to be determined – over two months since he was suspended pending an internal investigation.

But, despite Jackie McNamara’s exit, Courier Sport understands that the chances of him returning to his old post are extremely remote.

And the sacking of McNamara also hasn’t altered the fact that Pars youth coach Potter is a frontrunner to come in.

Potter had a short spell as first team manager of Dunfermline last season, taking over from Jim Jefferies in December following a poor start to the season.

But he was unable to get the East End Park side into the play-offs.

Rather than leaving as would usually be the case, he was persuaded to take up his old post.

As the under-20 coach, in 2013 Potter guided his team to Dunfermline’s first youth cup final since 1988, bringing through several youngsters who are now first team regulars for Allan Johnston’s side.

Potter was a team-mate of Mixu Paatelainen for a short time at St Mirren.
