Jimmy Nicholl made a dramatic return to Cowdenbeath at the weekend, to become their manager for a second time and vowed to dedicate himself to the task of getting the Fifers away from the Championship relegation zone.
The former Manchester United and Rangers star bounced back into football just three weeks after leaving his assistant manager role at Hibs following Terry Butcher’s appointment as boss at Easter Road.
His arrival at Central Park came just four days after the resignation of former Scotland inter-nationalist Colin Cameron and Cowden chairman Donald Findlay revealed he had been first choice to fill the vacancy.
Nicholl, 56, who had Cameron as his assistant in his first spell as Cowden boss in season 2010-11 said: “I have great affection for Cowdenbeath FC and am proud that I was asked to return.
“I relish the task ahead and will immediately set about improving our league position. The chairman has given me one simple instruction win football matches. That will do for me.”
Findlay said he was confident Cowden, who are second bottom, would remain in the Championship. He added: “I am delighted to welcome Jimmy back to Central Park.
“He understands what we are trying to achieve at Cowdenbeath and how important this season is to our aspirations.
“With his experience and enthusiasm, allied to 100% effort from the players, I am confident we will secure our place in the Championship.”
Assistant boss Lee Makel will continue in that role.
