Montrose boss Paul Hegarty looking for good home form to continue

Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is looking for some home comfort after his side’s problems on the road continued last week.

The Gable Endies had a great chance to end their away hoodoo against Stirling Albion but instead, they missed a penalty and could not capitalise on a one-man advantage after Ross McGeachie was sent off.

They then succumbed to a sucker punch goal and could not turn the game around.

Now though, Hegarty is confident his players will bounce back strongly against East Stirlingshire at Links Park this afternoon.

When asked if he felt last week’s game was a missed opportunity, the manager said: “You have summed it up in one.

“We had a great chance to score but we missed the penalty. We still should have done better as they were down to 10 men.

“Instead, they put everyone behind the ball and then caused us problems hitting on the break.

“We had the extra man but couldn’t make it count and to be honest, we were very poor in the latter stages of the game.

Hegarty added: “It was extremely disappointing especially as it was a great chance to pick up our first away win which would have left us equal on points at the top of the table with Elgin and Clyde.

“To be fair, I had a great response from the lads at training on Tuesday.

“I would say it is the best session we have had since I arrived at the club.

“The boys knew they had let themselves down and they should have capitalised against Stirling.

“The good thing is we are back at Links Park this week and our home form has been really good.

“The fans have been excellent as well so hopefully we can give them something to cheer about against East Stirlingshire.”

Montrose will be without Paul Watson, who has had an operation to cure a groin problem as well as goalie Jordan Millar, while on-loan Dundee defender Matty Allan is a doubt after being injured playing for the Dark Blues’ Under-20 side earlier this week.
