Paul Hegarty has called on his Montrose players to show that last weekend’s stunning derby victory over Arbroath was not a one-off.
As impressive as the 3-0 win over their Angus rivals was, the Links Park side’s league position is still perilous.
They remain four points adrift of second bottom Berwick Rangers, who have played two games less.
So Hegarty knows that they can’t afford to rest on their laurels – especially as their next task is beating league leaders Albion Rovers on their own ground this afternoon.
The Montrose boss said: “It was good to get a result, and I was really pleased with our performance.
“What the players did was exceptional. As well as working hard there was more meaning to our play. We defended better and we scored goals.
“But we need to replicate it.
“The players have set a high standard – they’ve showed me they can do it, and they showed themselves they can do it. But one swallow doesn’t make a summer.
“We’ve got to make sure we play as well again and make it tough for a team going for the title.
“I’ve said it before, but we have another eight cup finals.”
