East Fife manager Willie Aitchison has warned the rest of League One his team are on the up and up after hauling themselves off the bottom of the table.
The Fifers leaped into sixth spot thanks to their 1-0 home win over Airdrieonians at the weekend and will head into Saturday’s game at Stenhousemuir with renewed confidence.
But while the Airdrie result was just their second victory of the campaign so far, Aitchison feels there are signs of progress.
“If we can focus on the sloppy things, cutting the mistakes out, then I think we will start to hurt teams, and I think everyone can see that,” he said.
“There’s going to be a team in the next few weeks who are going to have a sore one against our boys because if we hit the target with 50% of the chances we’re creating, it’s going to be a five or six nothing. That then takes the pressure off everybody else to go out and play a wee bit.
“It was a wee bit tight against Airdrie in the last 20 minutes but you would expect that. I knew that would happen at the end of the game and it got a little bit scrappy at times.
“But the boys showed a bit of resilience this week, which was really good.”
A victory was the perfect response to some of the flak levelled by some fans at Aitchison and the club following their recent poor run of results, but the Bayview boss is looking at the bigger picture.
“It’s going to take time. I know people want to see us mid-table and in a position of safety,” he said.
“I know there’s been some criticism of me sometimes and people saying we don’t know what we’re doing, but all I can do is work away.”
