Arbroath held on to third place and, with a superior goal difference to rivals East Fife, could claim home advantage for the play-offs.
Lichties stand-in boss Todd Lumsden, while expressing disappointment at the second late goal conceded in two weeks, was satisfied, saying: “The objective today was just not to get beat today’s point makes it that bit safer.”
In a quiet first half the visitors had one clear chance. In the 22nd minute Scott McBride set up top scorer Simon Murray, but Rovers keeper Neil Parry did well to block the shot with his feet.
Arbroath keeper Marc McCallum had an easy first 45 minutes, but all that was to change.
It started when Rovers created mayhem down their right wing and the on-loan Dundee United keeper had to be alert to stop his defender Ricky Little putting the ball in his own net.
Next he had to produce a carbon copy of the save his opposite number produced in the first half, then he dealt with a close-in shot, following a free kick into the box, and then it was a spectacular diversion of a goal-bound pile-driver.
Rovers had lifted their game to reward the enthusiastic crowd that turned out for their coronation, but there was deflation all round four minutes from time when Arbroath took the lead.
Sub Dylan Carrerio found Bobby Linn unmarked at the far post and the ball was side-footed over the line.
Determined that the day would not go flat, Rovers put in a final push and despite yet another quality save from McCallum an injury-time equaliser was tucked away by Ally Love.
McCallum, 22, remains positive ahead of the play-offs.
“We’re looking solid now. I feel as though we’re starting to come on to a real good game,” he said.
McCallum, who has been involved in the play-offs on a previous loan spell at Berwick Rangers, added: “I’m definitely looking forward to them as it’s a great experience for the players and good for the fans.
“The main objective at the start of the season was to get promoted.
“We’ve still got the chance to do that and if we play like we did today then I think we’ll look good.”
East Fife look on course to secure the third and final play-off spot after a 3-0 win over Berwick, goals coming from Kevin Smith (2) and Jonathan Page.
