Dumbarton chief executive Gilbert Lawrie has asked for SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster and his team to show common sense in their plea to play Raith Rovers at 3pm on the final Saturday of the season.
The final round of Championship fixtures were all moved last week to 12.15pm kick-offs after a row erupted over the original scheduling of the Hearts against promotion seeking Rangers match on Sunday May 3 a day after play-off chasing rivals Hibs finish their season at Falkirk.
The SPFL’s response to the row, and claims of a lack of sporting integrity, were to move the entire Championship fixture card to the Saturday lunchtime slot with the backing of Sky Sports, who were originally scheduled to broadcast Sunday’s game from Tynecastle.
Dumbarton’s game with the Kirkcaldy men does not have any bearing on issues at either the top or the bottom of the table and sticking to the lunchtime kick-off could leave the Sons with a potential five-figure hole in their budget for next season.
Lawrie explained: “We are being forced to play at a kick-off time for reasons that are nothing to do with us.
“We have the support of the League representatives at the SPFL, Mike Mulraney of Alloa and Eric Drysdale of Raith.
“Independent of Eric’s support, Raith Rovers as a club want the game played at 3pm.
“There is little benefit to them to battle through traffic to start getting prepared at 10.30 in the morning.”
