Celtic manager Neil Lennon branded Kris Commons sensational after the forward scored twice in a comprehensive 5-0 demolition of Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
Having thrashed Hearts 7-0 in the William Hill Scottish Cup last week, the Hoops hit the goal trail again at Fir Park with Commons very much the catalyst as he made it five goals in two games.
Commons, fresh from a hat-trick last week, opened the scoring two minutes before half-time with a backheel and netted a rebound after Efe Ambrose had headed the second.
Anthony Stokes and Bahrudin Atajic finished the rout but Commons was the player who had caught his manager’s eye once again.
“There’s more to come from him in terms of his general play but as a goalscorer and value for money, he’s been one of my best signings,” Lennon said.
“He’s one of the best we’ve had at the club for a long time a sensational player and long may it continue.”
Discussing his team’s one-sided win that leaves the Hoops eight points clear of Inverness at the summit, Lennon added: “I’m delighted. The quality of football was a very high level. Some of the players have really hit top form.
“We started the game very well second half I thought we were fantastic.
“We were a little bit wayward in front of goal for my liking. I’d have liked to have seen the game finished off a lot earlier but we played very well.”
Man of the match Commons delivered a nice touch of understatement when he conceded Celtic were in “a bit of a ruthless mood” at present but was keen to heap praise on team-mate Ambrose, who scored on the same day his wife gave birth to a daughter.
“For me it was a special day,” said Ambrose. “God blessed me with a child and before the game I said I was going to get a goal for her. And thanks to God and my team-mates, I was able to do that.”
